Summary: They called him Milliardo's Dragon. A warrior bold as the Chinese legend, his temper as fiery; Lord Chang Wufei was the prince's right hand. Men of power quaked at word of his arrival, for he was the sword to carry out Milliardo's judgement. 'Twas rumored he'd do any deed at the prince's bidding, avenge any slight to his master's name. Only Milliardo had the might to direct the Dragon's fury, to shape thr form of his vengeance. Or so the prince believed. But shrouded deep beneath that scaly hide, the dragon's true nature slumbered. Obscured by fire. Hidden from harm. Burried beyond reach of pain. Until he met him. The boy with the power to free the heart of the Dragon.

"A Hidden Heart "

Epilogue

Wufei sat in state in his bedchamber at Raven’s Crest, his leg propped on a footstool. Duo had ensconced him there, refusing to allow him to do much of anything until he recovered completely from his injuries. This was the first day in over a week he'd even been allowed out of bed. He wouldn't have minded so much, especially after his long absence, if his husband had joined him there. But Duo had not yet felt Wufei was up to it.

// Ha! He can't possibly have missed noticing just how ready for his company I am. //

But how could he complain? If his lovely mate wished to treat him like a king, he'd not say no to him. Wasn't that a husband's duty, after all, to be treated like a king?

He was an obedient creature, Wufei thought with a snort. Obeying his liege, however reluctant he'd been to leave Duo to do it, had given him his heart's desire, without fear that he'd be taken from him. He knew Milliardo would not go back on his word in this. Especially since Wufei had the backing of two powerful marcher lords, he thought with a chuckle. If he hadn't gone to London about Milliardo's business, he and Duo would likely be living in the forest somewhere, part of an outlaw band struggling to stay alive.

Like the men who had attacked the village. Quatre and Treize had run them to ground without much difficulty, loaded down as the miscreants had been with loot from his village.

There was certain irony to the situation, he thought. First, that such a large group of renegades should have chosen his forest for their lair. They'd known he was seldom home, being as busy as he was on Milliardo's business.

And he found it particularly ironic that, in the times he'd been attacked when he was outlawed, no one had come as close to killing him as these ill-equipped men.

But still he couldn't regret going to London. Without making his bargain with Milliardo, he'd probably have wound up dead eventually, and Duo married to some idiot of Milliardo's choosing.

And if he hadn't met Duo, he would still be a blind, emotionless fool.

How could he have known he needed a boy like Duo, to awaken the heart of the Dragon? Courageous and loving, fearless enough to match him word for word, passion for passion. Powerful enough to hold the Dragon's heart in his hand.

For though far from tame, he was not the man he'd been when he met Duo. And Wufei thanked Nataku he was not. That poor fool had been so blinded by his goals, his duty that he'd forgotten how to be a man with compassion, as well as fire.

In Duo he'd found the perfect mate. Now all he needed to do was convince him of the fact.

He smoothed his hand through his hair, then twitched at the cuffs of his shirt. Why hadn't Duo gotten here yet? Today, of all days, he'd kept away from their chamber. He'd sent a servant to bring Duo to him, for his injured leg made it difficult for him to walk yet. He hadn't been out of this room since Quatre and Treize carried him up here more than a week ago.

His leg throbbed in remembered agony. The journey back to Raven’s Crest was a long, pain-filled blur in his mind. But he'd recovered quickly. Though his head still pained him on occasion, his shoulder was healing nicely. He felt much better now, ready for any confrontation.

Hopefully it wouldn't come to that, he thought, sitting up straight as the door opened.

Duo's face brightened when he saw him, those delectable lips curving in a smile. "You must be feeling better," he said, crossing the room and sitting beside his foot on the stool. He felt Wufei’s forehead for fever, then poked gently at his knee, eliciting a mock grimace of pain.

"There's not enough room for you there," Wufei said, nudging him off the seat with his foot. "Come sit up here with me." He patted his good leg. "It’s a far more comfortable chair."

Duo had no choice but to stand; otherwise, he would have landed on the floor. "Do you think that's wise?" he asked primly.

"Come here," Wufei growled, tugging Duo onto his lap. He landed sprawled over him. He squirmed into a more settled position, the movement sending shards of pleasure through Wufei.

He wrapped his arms about him tightly and held him for a moment, savoring Duo’s warmth and sweet scent. Duo's arms slipped about his waist and, sighing, he nuzzled the base of his throat. Wufei’s arms tightened about him. "I've missed you. I hope I am never away from you for so long again."

"Yes. This is wonderful, don't you think? We've had so little peace since we wed," Duo murmured. "I never realized I wanted it, but sitting here like this makes me complete. I have you, and a family."

"I find I'm feeling quite content, myself. And I like it," he said, surprised to find it true.

He lifted Duo’s chin and gazed into his eyes, losing himself in their vibrant violet depths. "Challenge me, Duo. Every day of my life. I need your fire, your passion. I need you, Duo." He brushed his lips over his. "I love you."

Duo snuggled deeper into his embrace, Wanting to believe, but not quite trusting that fate would be so kind. Could he really have everything he wanted?

"The past is done with. I doubt Milliardo will bother you again. But even if he tried, I would do whatever I had to to protect you. You are mine," he vowed. "I love who you are, Duo. I don't want to change you." He smoothed his hair back. "Never leave me. Help me learn to live a more peaceful life. I can no longer be Milliardo's Dragon, Duo. But I can be yours."

"Yes," Duo whispered against his cheek. Reaching up, Duo drew Wufei’s mouth to his. "I love you." He took his lips in a kiss of complete possession.

His heart light as a feather, Duo gave himself up to Wufei’s caress. The darkness of the past faded away, leaving only the bright glow of the future.

He'd found a home, a life, with the Dragon. He would never be alone again.
